Your Next RimWorld Story is Going Interstellar with the "Odyssey" DLC
Get ready to take your war crimes to space. Ludeon Studios has officially announced RimWorld's fifth major expansion, RimWorld - Odyssey, and it’s set to fundamentally change how you traverse the rim. Launching in July 2025, the new DLC centers around a groundbreaking feature: the ability to build, customize, and live aboard your very own starship.
The core of the Odyssey expansion is the new "gravship." Unlike the simple ship that ends a vanilla playthrough, this is a fully functioning, mobile second base. You can expand it over time and pilot it across the planet and even into the vacuum of space, which will require you to construct life-sustaining systems like oxygen and heating to protect your colonists.
This cosmic journey will be filled with new discoveries. Odyssey adds a wealth of new environments to explore, from desolate ruined cities to treacherous lava fields. The expansion also introduces over 40 new animals, including everything from crop-stealing crows to majestic peacocks, which can now be trained with new, useful skills. A new "sentience catalyst" even allows you to teach tasks to previously untrainable creatures. Your walrus can finally pull its weight in a firefight.
Launching simultaneously with the paid DLC is the free 1.6 update for all RimWorld players. This is a massive patch focused heavily on performance, promising significant improvements for late-game colonies. The update makes pathfinding and lighting systems fully multithreaded, drastically reduces game launch times, and improves caravan calculations. It also includes new quality-of-life features like enhanced base planning tools and, according to the developers, "flying chickens."
For those who can't wait, the 1.6 update is available to test right now on the unstable beta branch on Steam. For everyone else, prepare your colonists for a grand Odyssey when the DLC officially launches next month.
