DICE recently shared a comprehensive community update for Battlefield 6, outlining the significant changes coming with the Open Beta and the "road to launch." This update is a direct result of valuable player feedback and data collected through the Battlefield Labs program, showing the developer's commitment to creating a game shaped by its community.
A major point of discussion has been the weapon system. To cater to different playstyles, the Open Beta will introduce a new Closed Weapon Conquest playlist. This mode reintroduces class-based weapon restrictions, a staple of previous Battlefield titles, while maintaining full XP progression. This allows players to choose between a more traditional, teamwork-focused experience and the more flexible Open Weapon mode.
Specific changes have also been made to classes. The Assault class, for example, is now more geared toward team-oriented support with new passive squad perks. Its Adrenaline Injector now provides resistance to various damage types and movement enhancements, while a new Assault Ladder gadget allows squads to scale obstacles and reposition strategically.
The developers have also refined map layouts based on player traversal data. Key areas on maps like Siege of Cairo have been restructured with better cover and rebalanced objective sizes to improve the pace of combat. Additionally, the Domination mode will now feature a revive mechanic, adding a new layer of squad-based strategy. The Open Beta, which begins with early access on August 7 and opens to all on August 9, is a crucial milestone for gathering more data and feedback as DICE moves into the final stages of development.
